This page provides an overview about my book on Swiss political institutions, titled “À la découverte des institutions politiques suisses”.
The book was published with EPFL Press, the joint University Press of the universities of Western Switzerland, in 2023 (and reprinted in 1024 after being sold out).
It was the first publication of a new imprint by EPFL Press, called Épistémé, an imprint for peer reviewed academic works written for a broader audience. The book preface is authored by Pascal Couchepin, former President of the Swiss Confederation.
The book covers all aspects of the Swiss political system, mainly from a constitutional perspective, while drawing heavily on the historical background of the respective institutions. Two of the chapters focus on the Swiss federalism as well as on the semi-direct democracy. The book also makes comparison with other political systems, such as Belgium, Canada, France or the United States.
The book is available in bookshop and is distributed in Switzerland, France, and North America. It is an Open Access publication downloadable in the publisher’s website (see below).
It is available in the shelves of over 100 libraries domestically and internationally. I use my book as the textbook for the class on the Swiss political system and institutions which I impart every year at the Popular University of the Canton of Geneva. I launched this class in the academic year 2019/2020, and the module extends over two semesters. This educational institution consists of mainly international students, and the faculty members are working pro bono. In my class on Swiss political institutions, I have had students from Argentina, Australia, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, El Salvador, Guatemala, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Lebanon, Mexico, Morocco, Philippines, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the United States, Venezuela, Viet Nam, and many European countries.
